It is a triphenylmethane dye. It is banned or found unsafe for use in cosmetics according to CosIng. It is also used in facial toning lotion to control excess sebaceous secretion and restore the skin’s pH.

It is banned or found unsafe for use in cosmetics according to CosIng. In China, Patent Blue V is included in the List of Colorants Permitted for use in Cosmetic products. However, it is not allowed for use in hair dye products.
