overview

Nylon-12, also known as PA-12 or polyamide-12, is a synthetic polymer used in cosmetics and personal care products. It is primarily used as a bulking agent and opacifying agent. Nylon-12 is also hypo-allergenic and sterile. It is used as an absorbent and texture enhancer in skincare and makeup products. When present in high amounts, it tends to have mattifying properties. Nylon-12 is also used as a film former, which means it can help to create a barrier on the skin that can help to protect it from environmental stressors. It gives a wonderful blend to powders and helps mattify the skin by absorbing oil.

additional info

Nylon-12 is not absorbed through the skin and is not associated with adverse dermal effects such as skin irritation or sensitization. Nylon-12 is also used as a film former, which means it can help to create a barrier on the skin that can help to protect it from environmental stressors. It tends to sit ON the skin and doesn’t blend into it as much.
