PEG-8 Beeswax is used in cosmetics at standard usage levels of 4–12%, depending on formulary aesthetic goals and its intended purpose in the product. PEG-8 Beeswax creates lotions that are bright and fluid with enhanced emolliency and spreadability. It will allow the formulator to use up to 60% oil phase. Applications include sunscreens, pomades, hair care fixatives, depilatories, ointments, creams and emulsions. PEG-8 Beeswax is also known as Dimethicone PEG-8 Beeswax and is a nonionic, water-dispersible wax ester which features a light color and low odor. It is easily incorporated into hair and skin care systems and may be used to impart the conditioning benefits of silicone to products without contributing to the greasiness and build-up that can be associated with silicone fluid. PEG-8 Beeswax is recommended in products including aftershave balms, mild cleansers, makeup removers, creams, and lotions. Cithrol™ 4BW is a beeswax derivative with excellent compatibility and binding properties. It builds consistency and aids spreading, making it ideal for use in color cosmetics and lipsticks.
