Ppg 26 Buteth 26

irritation

overview

PPG 26 Buteth 26 is a synthetic polymer used as a skin/hair conditioning agent and emulsifier in cosmetic products. It forms a protective film on the skin's surface, preventing moisture loss and improving hydration. It also conditions the hair, making it softer and silkier. As an emulsifier, it stabilizes products and prevents separation of oil and water-based components.

additional info

PPG 26 Buteth 26 is FDA approved as an additive to food, although there is no current reported use of the ingredient in food. Potential contaminants, 1,4 Dioxane and Butyl Alcohol, are of concern. Butyl Alcohol can be a reproductive and developmental toxin; 1,4 Dioxane is a known carcinogenic. However, Butyl Alcohol was not found to be present in PPG 26 Buteth 26 and 1,4 Dioxane can be removed by purification. It is often used to solubilize fragrance components into water-based formulas. It is also used as a surfactant and oil solubilizer, working at low concentrations. PPG Buteth ingredients are polyoxypropylene, polyoxyethylene ethers of butyl alcohol. In cosmetics and personal care products, these ingredients function as hair conditioning agents, skin conditioning agents – miscellaneous, and surfactants – emulsifying agents. PPG-12-Buteth-16 is also used as a solvent.
