Sodium Acrylate is a sodium salt derived from acrylic acid. It is commonly used in skincare products as a thickening agent, stabilizer, and film-forming agent. It helps improve the texture, consistency, and stability of formulations. Sodium Acrylate is generally considered safe when used in accordance with industry standards and regulations.
Thickening Agent: Improves the viscosity and texture of skincare products, giving them a smooth and luxurious feel. Stabilizer: Contributes to the stability of formulations, preventing separation of ingredients and enhancing shelf life. Enhanced Spreadability: Improves the spreadability of skincare products on the skin, ensuring even application and distribution. Film-Forming Properties: May create a thin film on the skin, providing a protective barrier and potentially helping to lock in moisture.
Generally suitable for all skin types, except those with known allergies to it.
Sodium Acrylate is generally considered safe when used in accordance with industry standards and regulations. However, it's always advisable to check the ingredient list and conduct a patch test if you have sensitive skin or known allergies.
NA
Sodium Acrylate is derived from acrylic acid through a neutralization reaction, where the hydrogen ion (H+) of acrylic acid is replaced by a sodium ion (Na+).
Safe for use in cosmetics with some qualifications

Sodium Acrylate is a vegan ingredient. It is usually synthetically derived. The safety of polymers that contain the acrylic acid monomer such as sodium polyacrylate, has been assessed by the Cosmetic Ingredient Review Expert Panel. The CIR Expert Panel is responsible for the independent evaluation of skincare and cosmetic ingredients. The Expert Panel evaluated the scientific data and concluded that sodium polyacrylate was safe for use in cosmetics and personal care products when formulated to avoid skin irritation. Since sodium polyacrylate is a large compound, it is unable to penetrate the skin’s barrier. If a compound cannot penetrate through the skin, it cannot react with cells of the immune system. Therefore, sodium polyacrylate does not cause sensitivity reactions.
